My first Contemporary duo was with multi instrumentalist Jim Tetlow. I met him in 2007 when he was playing in Endgame, We hit it off immediately like we were twins. Soon I was staying weekends at his studio at Elmsthorpe, Leicestershire, where we recorded a series of 8 seminal albums. Better Than Even is the last of the Elmsthorpe Albums as Jim moves his studio to Leicester, on to the same street as David Dhonau and Ola Szmidt Better Than Even is the last of the Elmsthorpe Albums as Jim moves his studio to Leicester, on to the same street as David Dhonau and Ola Szmidt. A lot of music shared between us all - some 60 albums - the majority of The DCM Cm Albums. There was quite a break between our 10th and the eleventh album Cellestation. The Eleventh and the Twelfth albums are more or less concurrent - it would be the Thirteenth album Tredeccaphobia that would mark the change. Now friends for life - Jim and I have 19 albums together and 3 Arkiv Discs.


[B13] Tredecadent Voices our Thirteenth album. After another long break - this time from our 12th album ‘Promise to Return’ - we Did. In that time I began work on my Collaboration with Cellist David Dhonau who I met through Jim and who then lived on the same street as Jim & Ola Szmidt - well just around a corner. A triangle of magic where these fabulous people would work and record together - and Bassist Jonny McJ. Lived inbetween. We lived in each others lives. So - Before I returned to Jim for the 13th album I would record a series of eight albums with Cellist David Dhonau as [F] D’juil - a very important move for me musically and 2 albums released much later, with [G] German composer Johannas Schafer - the ‘Dr C’ of [D] revenge of the Umbrella People.

Triskaidekaphobia, is he fear of the number 13 -Tredeca is the Latin for the number 13 - then punned with the word 'Decadent' to give 'Tredecadent'. For me this was the fear of making the 13th album with Jim - overcome here - audaciously with simultaneous vocalising through live multi-layered processing. I was convinced that we should end our catalogue with a lovely number like twelve as twelves feature so often in my own work as the canonic number from Baroque music. However Jim persuaded me to try. So on the 28th of May 2011, we were in Ola Szmidt's house - her lounge floor covered with our wires, boxes, plug boards and microphones - and what a remarkable success it was. Just before my Serious break with the Leicester Underground - for pastures new. The album is dedicated to Ola Szmidt and her then infant Daughter Amelie, who slept through it all.

Then seemingly an end - a gap of years and an apocalyptic break with Leicester is just around a corner - during which the World happened to me and to the DCM label.
