Percussion piece for Organ and drum - a Live to studio recording from our early Elmsthorpe Days - for Simply Drum and organ but nothing from T and B is ever really simple. Confusingly perhaps, there is a version of this on my 12 disc archive box ‘Arkiv - a box of Delights’ - with a heavier organ and frailer Drum mix [Piece 11 Organ and Drum at Elmsthorpe AA mix]. This version has come to light since as I’ve gone through the archive, simply titled ‘Rehearsal’- its no wonder it got lost.
I feel is this more faithful to the event - it has no edit suffix. It’s as clear as a spring day - the drum just bouncing - up front and crisp - as I was leading the pace in sixteen minutes of Bambu Era loved and lost music. The organ is a beautifully understated perfumed air and is how he would have played it - a masterstroke from Jim. Listen to us set it up. At some point it was ended [nicely] but it begins with the touch of the tape. No fluffs - no blunders - just Fab and a document of us together.
This Arkiv release bookends our career. A Very early Elmsthorpe piece and something up close and personal to our ‘Bauing’ out with the Ensemble Et Au sessions both with and without David Dhonau - where I brought D’juil and T and B together into a triangle of Cocked hats.
The four Pulse session Pieces pass the buck of bending a pulse in an increasingly difficult fashion. They didn’t change the world. Rather, they went into a box - but they could have been a twentieth album - if the wind had blown the other way. They were indeed the nearest we got to one. A Very Subtle set of works - Very demanding of an audience but then that is what we are, that is what we did as a duo.
